My 6 year old rescue Laci (aka Smarty) is in surgery right now having a mammary mass removed. They took a sample on Thursday and determined it is cancerous. I have been all over the internet trying to get a better understanding on food for her to keep her healthy and cancer free. I can not give her any sugar or grains. (She has been eating Wellness)

I found food called Innova EVO which seems to be good according to the label and also found the Budwig diet (cottage cheese and flax seed oil). I am just trying to get any feedback I can. Or if you know of anything else I would love to hear it!

Thanks

Jenn

Jenn,

Im sorry to hear about Laci.........The life's abundance on my site comes highly recomended although the EVO is a good food just very pricey but if your only feeding one you should be good. Please keep in touch with smartys recovery....i hope all will be well. PS My dogs look foreward to liverwurst it may help her with her recovery:)

Conjugated linoleic acid is a fatty acid found in trace amounts in meats and dairy products; it is synthesized by bacteria in the rumen of the source animals. Long-term studies have already shown that feeding CLA to rats cuts mammary tumor incidence in half. Other data indicate inhibition of skin and forestomach carcinogenesis".click here for abstract. Having found reference to increasing folic acid which might help in breast cancer in humans.

Laci made it through surgery with no problems. they removed 2 masses 1 was cancerous and the other wasn't. All of her margins were clear so according to her vet she is in great shape. We just need to keep checking her for any other masses in the future. Since the mass has been removed she is a completly different dog. She no longer sleeps 98% of the day (only about 75% ha ha). She is running around and playing . Thanks for all the info. Now that I am not worried we need to make some lifestyle changes!

Good for Smarty!.................You know its a sad thing because im shure she was probably fed Diamond foods which alot of the menonite/amish do......just shows good nutrition is everything and it can add life to our companions......fortunately for smarty she was rescued  at the right time or she would have just  taken a turn for the worst. Keep us updated please:D
