I just had my puppy go through surgery for his cherry eye.  still slighty exposed but not totaly gone.  my vet says "it should" go away.  Im from NJ and plan on finding another vet.  Does this sound normal??

Scott,

I find that tucking is a better way of dealing with the cherry eye. We have had removals of the ligament which then causes dry eye and alot of maintenance!  early treatment is better the longer you go the worse it gets but sounds like yours were cut which now that ligamnet should shrivel back.....good luck

The procedure was the the tacking method.  I also notice my bully coughs up a lot of phlem and mostly swallows it.  Also sounds like a wet nasal congestion.  As per vet, its normal.  Its 1st bulldog so unclear as to what is normal.

When my girl wakes up she is a little phlem too I find that if I give her a biscuit at night and when she wakes it is not a problem.Check the Heavensent Bulldog site they have some remedies. That is where I read about the biscuits.

Our baby girl had cherry eye when she was four months old in both eyes.  We had her surgery the same time she was spayed so as not to go under anesthesia twice.  It is very normal for the cherry to look like it is still there before it heals and it does take a while to heal.  Our vet will only do the "tuck" procedure.  Our baby has since healed and looks absolutely beautiful - like she never had those ugly cherries in her eyes!
